What is Motability?

Motability is an independent non-profit organisation which helps provide mobility solutions for people who have disabilities.

How does it work? People with disabilities can receive a mobility allowance. What motability does is use that allowance to help the person obtain a vehicle that suits their specific accessibility needs. The options available are. A new car on a three year to five year contract hire lease or a new or used car on hire purchase over a term of two to five years. Once an option is picked there is the option to use all or part of the allotted mobility allowance to the Motability operations scheme.

Who is eligible for the scheme? If you are receiving a higher rate mobility component or an HRMC of the Disability Living Allowance you are eligible. Also if you are receiving a war pension supplement (WPMS) then you are eligible. You need to have at least 21 months award length remaining when you apply. An application for a car can also be made on behalf of a child aged three or older, who is entitled to the mobility allowance. Even if you don't drive but receive the allowance you can apply for a car as a passenger and put two other people forward as drivers. Under 65's with disabilities who are not currently receiving the Higher Rate Mobility Component of the DLA may be entitled to the allowance.

What does hire purchase mean? Hire purchase is a system where you buy a vehicle from a supplier and use your DLA or WPMS to pay direct debits for the period of the agreement. You will be able to take the vehicle straight away but the finance company has a security interest in the goods until all amounts owed are paid. Hire purchase may appeal if you are likely to exceed 45,000 miles in three years. Also, if your chosen vehicle has a relatively high specification and therefore a larger advance payment you may be interested in purchasing the vehicle outright so that you retain an asset at the end of your agreement.

Digital Cameras: A Beginner's Guide to File Formats

For those who aren't computer savvy, buying a digital camera can force the issue of learning a few things about computers if they wish to download, save, or print their pictures at home. Gaining knowledge about file formats is one example. Understanding a little bit about how pictures are recorded on a digital camera and then subsequently saved on a computer is critical but fairly simple even for a beginner.

Digital cameras record images as a grid of pixels. Because the data, the information about the grid of pixels, must be communicated to a computer for downloading, saving, and printing, the format used by the digital camera for storing the data must be understood by the computer as well regardless of the type of software used by the computer. Thus, there are standardized file formats used allowing this communication and transfer of data.

There are many file formats but there are only a few that are the most common used with images. Knowing which of these file formats to use when recording and saving images from a digital camera is crucial in assuring good image quality.

o JPG: The JPG file format is the most commonly used for photographs. Most digital cameras are set to store images in JPG automatically. The JPG format compresses files to save storage but in the process eliminates some of the data which degrades image quality to a small extent.

Users can adjust the degree of compression/image quality on their digital camera. However, as degree of compression is reduced and image quality increases, the number of images the camera or memory card is able to store decreases. It is simply a trade off between image quality and storage capacity.

Choosing the JPG file format is often a good choice for color and grayscale photographs whether putting images on the web, viewing them on screen, or producing regular sized prints.

Users new to digital cameras need to understand that images recorded on the camera can be saved to computer in the same or a different format. However, an image originally recorded in JPEG will never have better quality than that in which it was originally recorded. Thus, if a user records an image with high compression on their digital camera, they can not reduce the compression or save as an uncompressed TIF file on their computer expecting to obtain better image quality.

Each time a JPEG file is opened, edited, and re-saved it loses data, and therefore image quality is lost as well. Thus, users should make every attempt to save original copies on their computer so that the image does not become progressively worse with repeated editing.

o TIF: The TIF file format can save images without compression and therefore no loss of image quality. This format can be used with both Macintosh and Windows based computers. Choosing to use the TIF file format is wise when enlarging images as there is a greater need for high image quality in these situations.

Many digital cameras allow users the option of recording images in TIF format. Although this allows superior image quality it drastically reduces the number of images that can be stored and is therefore used far less often by the average photographer. However if a user wants to produce large prints, setting their digital camera to record images in TIF format and saving them on computer in the same manner would be recommended.

o GIF: The GIF file format is used most often for graphics and animation on the web. It has a limited color palette and is therefore, not generally a preferred choice for color photographs although it does well with black and white images. GIF format images are also somewhat preferred on the Web as their background can be made transparent and, because of the way they display, can help images load/display more quickly.

Some of the less frequently used formats in saving images include BMP which produces very large, uncompressed images such as those used with wallpapers, PICT which is the file format for Macintosh computers, PDF used by Adobe Acrobat, EPS, FlashPix, and PNG which are used primarily for graphics, and PSP which is the Photo Shop format. However, for the average person, recording and saving images from their digital camera in JPG, TIF, or GIF will meet their needs if they understand the benefits and drawbacks of each and how to adjust accordingly.

Online Military Loans - Tips on Choice and Application

Online military loans are not hard to come by, but finding the best is another thing. If ever you have the opportunity to really browse and shop, finding a good online military loan will certainly be one of them. Military folks work hard for their money and face challenges far above than what is called for in a regular job. That being so, would it not be wise to find a deal with the lowest interest rates and the most comfortable repayment terms? To ease you along, consider the tips that follow.

Get Your Docs in a Row

To ease the application process once it has started, have all your documentation required to land an online military loan. You will need your military identification, your leave and earnings statement (LES), proof of residency or duty station, and an active bank account. Lenders prefer direct-deposit checking, but some offer a prepaid credit card for a small fee. You also should remake your budget. After having made all your mandatory expenditures, you need to be sure that you have enough money left over every month to easily make another payment. Called your debt-to-income ratio, it will be the primary consideration when the lender decides on approval. Do not ask for more money than you really need.

Your Credit History

Inherent differences exist between military and civilian lifestyles. Rapid and unscheduled deployments or relocation being one of them. This sometimes makes meeting financial obligations a little screwy. A good lender to the military understands these situations and tends to overlook or give only perfunctory attention to credit scores.

Go Shopping Online

Most traditional lenders, such as banks and credit unions, are not really in the business of providing personal loans to anyone, especially since the economic problems of the last decade. Your best bet will be to go to the web and start shopping for your online military loan. Point your browser to military loan and you will come across scores of lenders willing to lend to military customers. You need to come up with a list of four to five lenders who look like they may be able to fill the bill. Check those lenders with the online listings of the Better Business Bureau. There you will find the lender graded and you will find feedback from borrowers who have used that certain business. You might also want to check online personal finance forums and ask others who may have used a certain lender about their experiences. Make sure any page where you divulge personal or financial information is secure.

What You Are Seeking

Lowest interest rates and the most comfortable repayment terms are your objectives when searching for an online military loan. Be sure to read the fine print before signing anything. Are the fees over the board? Always ask questions. Is there a penalty for early repayment? Is the interest rate fixed or variable? What are your options for making payments? You will also want quick approval time - no more than a couple of hours, within minutes is often doable. You will want fast disbursement of funds - certainly no more than 24 hours. If you can find a lender that has veterans on its staff, all the better.

How Can My Last Will And Testament Be Protected Once It Is Created?

So you have made a very smart decision in having an attorney create your Last Will and Testament. Now you are wondering what the next steps are and what you can actually do to protect your legal document for future use. The most common misconception is that many individuals believe that they need to file their Will in a certain governmental office so that it will become legal.

However, this is not correct and in fact there is no need to physically file the document anywhere. A very good practice that is typically recommended for a legal document such as this created by an attorney is to file it in the county where you reside. By doing this you are merely providing yourself with some extra comfort that the document will be protected and easily accessible by the courts or any other person when it is necessary.

It is also completely acceptable and fine to simply keep a copy of your Will in your safety deposit box at your local bank as well. Just either way you should take good care in having your legal instrument notarized with the signatures of at least three witnesses. This will ensure that if the situation arises where the courts will need to look into determining your true intent then there is at least three other individuals that may attest to the fact that you signed the instrument. Thus, although there really does not exist one good practice it is typically recommended by attorney that the Will be filed in the local county where the individual is located. This is the most effective way because it in fact offers great security while at the same time allowing for easy access to interested parties when they are looking to determine your true intention during the creation of the Last Will and Testament.

Selling For Sale By Owner-Simple Effective Strategies

When you've made the decision to sell For Sale by Owner, the method in which you market your home is what makes the difference. This is what's going to bring prospective buyers to your doorstep and eventually get it sold. Let me provide you a summary of some basic marketing ideas that should help.

Upfront you'll need a turnkey solution, it should be easy to implement and simple in terms of advertising. One of the easiest courses of action would be to run an ad in your local newspaper. By running a simple yet descriptive small ad, this can be an effective marketing strategy and yield positive results in a short amount of time.

Generally, people looking to purchase real estate initially look at the classified ads to discover what's available. Ultimately, this provides a good amount of exposure to individuals as well as real estate professionals.

For most, successful marketing boils down to providing a systematic awareness that, you have something to sell, and you are able to get the word out on a consistent basis.

Obviously shoving a sign in the yard is the most basic techniques you can do. It's a simple strategy and you could just luck-up and have your dreams answered by having some stop their car and make you an offer on the spot.

This however usually does not happen and is generally not enough. You'll need to do more if you want to serious attempt at marketing your home.

Another simple step is providing a highlight sheet; you should consider it a must. I recommend making them in color. Having a nice flyer with all of the pertinent information makes your home easy to remember after a long day of looking at different homes, and makes yours standout from the rest.

Keep them fresh and constantly available. Make at least fifty to start if you live in a suburban area. If you live in a rural area maybe less than that but be sure to keep a steady supply available.

Selling your home by owner is not that complicated. It does however take consistent action and a solid strategy.

Video Conferencing - How Law Firms Can Benefit

Video conferencing has been used by law firms for many years, but only until recently has it become affordable for even the smallest of firms. Equipment that cost tens of thousands of dollars only a few years ago, can be purchased for a fraction of that cost today. The products have become more reliable, easier to use, more compact, even portable, and their capabilities and features have been enhanced drastically. Popular thinking seems to indicate that now is the time to get your firm started with video conferencing, but not surprisingly, many firms encounter unnecessary technical obstacles and set backs due to poor planning. The following are important points you should keep in mind before getting started with video conferencing:

How you will use the technology

For many law firms, video conferencing is first used as a way to reduce traveling for internal meetings between practices located in different cities. But there are other factors to consider. How far are the courthouses your firm serves? Do they allow video depositions or other video-based communication for legal procedures? If the addition of video conferencing will save many, or all, of your attorneys significant amounts of time in commuting and improve the productivity of their work day, then video conferencing will definitely help to grow your practice.

The resources you'll needed

IP (Internet Protocol) networks are superior to ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network). If you have 384 kilobytes of bandwidth available to and from each video conferencing device, you should be able to enjoy a good quality video call. Realize however, that if your network is shared with other resources, it may compromise the quality of your conferences. A dedicated network specifically for video conferencing, or a managed IP video network like IVCi's IntelliNet, would ensure the best user experience.

Once you define your network, you need someone to manage it. Although your firm's technical staff may be able to manage your conferencing network, there are more efficient ways to ensure steady and healthy performance of your video conferences. Some conferencing providers perform 'managed services' that take all of the work out of your hands. Do a search in Google for "managed conferencing services" and you'll find a list of companies that will allow you to reap all of the benefits of video conferencing while eliminating your need to purchase expensive network equipment and hire additional support staff.

The following are steps you can take to be ready for your video conferencing implementation:

Talk with your attorneys and identify those individuals who are ready to reap immediate benefits from the technology; those who would be ready and willing to start using video conferencing right away.

Once you define the extent of usage, you can calculate the amount of time that your attorneys will be freed up to work on other cases. In many instances, the time saved adds up to dozens of hours per month, per attorney. With more time available, they can work on additional cases, thus growing the practice.

Video conferencing is best executed in phases. Features that satisfy the most important needs of the practice should be implemented in the first phase. Define what you need, find out what it costs and budget for that phase. As need and demand grow, you can budget for future implementations as they arise. Always work with conferencing providers that create scalable solutions.

Do some simple math. Once you define how much usage your firm will have, you can compare that figure to your budget. It's as easy as that.

Payroll Accounting - Car Washes Beware of Under the Table Cash Payrolls for Illegal Immigrants

Indeed, it's no surprise to anyone who's ever been to a car wash that often car washes have hired illegal aliens the past. And it's obviously no doubt to the regulators in the State of California who had just fined many car washes hundreds of thousands of dollars in unpaid employment contributions, as they were paying illegal aliens under the table. Not long ago, I talked to a friend of mine who did payroll accounting for local small businesses in our town.

Indeed, I had mentioned to her that I was previously in the car wash business before retiring, and she said she had a couple of car wash accounts, and we got to talking about how she could be implicated if a car wash which she did business with was giving her false information, or paying illegal aliens under the table. She told me, that if they were lying to her she had nothing to worry about, and she already suspected that they were in some cases.

"Well," I told her, "if they are and you know about it, and you don't call it in as a whistleblower, you are in fact enabling a crime, and in this state [CA] you know that they need the money, so they are going to continue to go after these car washes that violate the law." She was bothered by the fact that she might get in trouble merely because of one of her good paying customers was cheating the state out of unemployment withholding, etc, or not paying the required workers compensation insurance to their employees.

If you run a small accounting business, and you also handle payroll accounting for those small businesses who are your clientele and customers, you should be thinking about this, because it is a rather serious issue. The other day we were talking about the car wash industry, but it could be just about any industry that uses lots of illegal alien labor such as the landscaping profession, or small contractors. So please consider all this and don't get yourself in trouble.

How to Detect a Person That is Addicted to Plastic Surgery

Plastic surgery offers people the chance to improve features they do not like, look younger or add to a feature they like about themselves. However, when plastic surgery becomes an addiction, it can be very damaging to the person who is addicted. Many times people who have this problem are unable to stop themselves from getting more plastic surgery than is necessary, so it is up to family members and doctors to watch for the signs.

Examples of Plastic Surgery Addiction

There are both well-known and lesser-known examples of plastic surgery addiction among celebrities and socialites today. One notable example that most people know about (and consider an addicted person) is Michael Jackson. Another notable example is Cindy Jackson. Cindy Jackson is also known as the human Barbie doll. She has had over 47 plastic surgery procedures and has significantly altered her appearance over the years to look more like Barbie.

One of the most infamous individuals who seems addicted to plastic surgery is the socialite Jocelyn Wildenstein. She is famous for getting repeated surgeries to look like a large cat. She has even noted that recent surgeries to expand her cheekbone area have caused limitations to her peripheral vision.

What Causes Plastic Surgery Addiction?

The underlying disease which doctors think is the cause of most plastic surgery addictions is called Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD). BDD is a psychological disorder which causes individuals afflicted by it to consider themselves, or part of their bodies, to be ugly or deformed. This disease is considered to be closely related to excessive compulsive disorder and anorexia.

Sadly, regardless of how many plastic surgeries a person afflicted with this disorder receives, they do not see their body image as improving. As this is a psychological disorder, it cannot be treated through cosmetic surgery and must be treated with help from a psychologist.

What to Look For

There are several things that family members and doctors can look for when trying to identify a person that has an addiction to plastic surgery, or the underlying disorder of BDD. First of all, a person with these types of afflictions will have a very negative opinion of how they look and low self-esteem. This negative opinion does not seem to improve even with reassurances from those around them. This obsession is also long-lasting.

Another sign of these disorders is the vast number of surgeries the person wants to get or has received in the past. He or she may also have very unrealistic views of what plastic surgery can do and may be very disappointed in the results after the plastic surgery has been completed.

A person who is afflicted with BDD may also have a difficult time leaving his or her home or feeling comfortable in social gatherings. The person will likely have an obsession that people are looking at the physical trait or traits person is paranoid about.
